City of Raleigh Expo and Job Fair October 21: City Jobs Downtown
RALEIGH, NC — City Hall is coming to the convention center to hire. The City of Raleigh will hold its Expo and Job Fair on Wednesday, October 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center downtown, the building most locals still call the Raleigh Convention Center. Departments from across city government will recruit for entry-level and experienced roles.
One day, one employer, a lot of departments: a six-hour window on South Salisbury Street to talk with the people who run the city about working for it.

Who's Hiring at the City of Raleigh Job Fair
This one is a single-employer fair, and that employer is the City of Raleigh itself. The city's official event page says job seekers can meet employees from a range of departments and explore roles across city government. The city has not published a list of departments attending or a count of open positions.
What you can do is look before you go. Every current opening is posted on the city's official job board, and that is also where you will apply. Pick two or three that fit and bring questions about those jobs. Two recruiting tracks are worth knowing about: the Raleigh Fire Department is recruiting for its 2027 academies and requires no prior firefighting experience, and the city keeps a dedicated application page for 911 call takers.
💪 Why City Work Is Worth a Look
The "expo" half of the name is about benefits, and the city's pay and benefits page makes the case on paper. Full-time employees join the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System, a traditional pension, and the city puts 3% of pay into a supplemental 457 retirement plan with no match required from the worker. New full-timers start with 10 paid holidays, 12 vacation days and 12 sick days a year. Tuition assistance runs up to $2,000 a year.
Starting in 2026, part-time employees working 30 hours a week also qualify for medical, dental and vision coverage. Temporary, seasonal and intern positions do not carry the benefits package, so ask which kind of job you are talking about at each table.
The city has not announced pay figures for this event; each posting lists its own range.
📋 How to Show Up Ready
- Pre-register through the city's registration form before the day.
- Bring printed resumes, and know which postings you want before you reach the first table.
- Have your driver's license and any certifications handy.
- Plan the trip. GoRaleigh Route 100 serves the area, and the closest parking is the public decks on Lenoir Street. The convention center posts directions and parking details.
